The new collection of  HAVVA -AW2011 rainboots were showcased at the Wolf & Badger boutique party for new brands and the graduate design awards on the 1st of September, the night was accompanied by a fabulous live Jazz band outside with a champagne cocktails.

I was in the same position once upon a time ago, as I also spent three years developing and widening my knowledge of shoes, so seeing all my old lecturers was fantastic. Within all the hustle and bustle of the students celebrating the graduation show I was delighted to be able to speak to a few of them:

“Her final collection focuses around the development of wet- molded construction. The leather is soaked in water and shaped and formed around the wooden last. The end result is a rigid and set form of a shoe with a natural quality and aesthetic that changes and evolves over time.”

“Ellen’s final collection was founded on the natural contradiction: looking at the juxtapositions of the natural world and the contrast of embodying both strength and vulnerability. She primarily focused on protection and adaptation, propelling her to experimenting with unique materials such as polymorph. She utilises a vibrant mix of colours and materials to offer a rich distinctive collection”

Every students work is like a piece of art- its a chance for them to be able to express all their creative talent.

The design of the Hotel and Restaurant Astoria in Trondheim included various versions of the cone chairs lending itself to Gloria with the geometric lines and side scroll.

The St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chicago is somewhat famous for its marching walls of blue diamonds and the architectural feature of a pediment in the shape of waves took to the patchwork layers of Venus- wave roofing’s and detailing was a feature of the 1960s architecture. The high shine leather metallic mix was a tribute to the futuristic movement called Googie.

The collection has been crafted with various platforms and heel heights using the very best of traditional Italian craftsmanship coupled with an array of prestigious leathers including suede, kid, textures and metallic’s.

The collection has drawn influences from the 1960s modernist architecture. A lot of bold angles, geometric holes, squares, triangles and other modern patterns were used. All of these shapes and designs represented progress and ‘moving forward.’ They symbolized to the people around them that everything, including architecture and fashion, was moving forward.

So for the next week, everyday im going to be showing you the inspiration behind each design.
